Towada (????, Towada-shi?) is a city located in Aomori, Japan.
The city merged with the town of Towadako on January 1, 2005. As of 2008, the city has an estimated population of 66,330 and a density of 96.3 persons per km˛. The total area is 688.6 km˛. The town includes the 9km Oirase Gorge, formed as river water flows east out of Lake Towada and through the center of the city.
Historically, Towada has bred horses for cavalry. There are still ample equestrian locations, and Sanbongi Nogyo Koko--Sanbongi Agricultural High School--has one of the highest ranked equestrian teams in Japan.
The city was founded on February 1, 1955.
