Mežica (-Slovenian, German: Mießdorf) is a town and a municipality in Slovenia in Carinthia (known as Koroska in Slovenian), near the Austrian border. The town had a lead and zinc mine under Mount Peca. Mining began in 1665 and ended in 1994. Today the mine is only open for tourist visits. The village belonged to Austria until the 1919 Treaty of St. Germain, along with a minority of Austrians living there.
